Your clinic's data is your clinic's data. Period.

1. You Own Your Data

Every patient record, appointment, invoice, and note you create in Tails.vet belongs to you. We store it on your behalf. We do not claim any ownership, license, or intellectual property rights over your clinic's data. If you self-host, the data never leaves your servers at all.

2. Free Export, Always

You can export your data at any time in standard formats:

  • ✓ JSON — complete, structured, machine-readable
  • ✓ CSV — spreadsheet-friendly for reporting and migration

There is no fee for exporting. There is no limit on how often you export. There is no "contact sales for a data extract" step.

3. We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent, license, or share your clinic data with third parties for their benefit. No anonymous aggregation for "industry benchmarks." No selling prescription patterns to pharmaceutical companies. No data broker deals. Full stop.

4. The API Key Model

When a vendor or developer needs access to your data, the flow is controlled entirely by you:

You generate the API key from your dashboard

You choose what scopes (permissions) the key has

You share the key directly with the vendor

You revoke the key whenever you want — access stops immediately

We never generate keys on a vendor's behalf. We never grant access without your action. The clinic is always the gatekeeper, not us.

5. What We Do Use Your Data For

Honestly:

  • - Operating the service (storing, displaying, searching your records)
  • - Generating backups so your data survives hardware failures
  • - Debugging issues when you report them to support

That's it. If we self-host for you, we need to read data to keep the service running. We don't mine it, train models on it, or do anything creative with it.

6. Leaving Is Easy

If you cancel your hosted account, we retain your data for 90 days so you have time to export everything. After 90 days, we delete it permanently. During those 90 days, your export tools remain fully functional. No "exit fee." No reduced export format. No retention games.

If you self-host, there's nothing to cancel — you already have the data on your own servers.
